Hi, and welcome to Silk Flower Creations. My name is Sharon Bland and I'm the founder of this company. I became very interested in floral design about 15 years ago. I dabbled with the craft a little and then began making bouquets for friends and family. I ran a small business from my home for a little over a year, then decided to go back to doing it just for friends and family.
I moved direction and went headfirst into a totally different career which lasted for about 13 years. I studied and gained a Diploma as part of my career choice and purchased associated businesses which I operated for over 5 years. During this time I never stopped creating bouquets for friends and even for staff members who worked for me.
I sold the businesses and then in 2005 found myself being an at home mum. My oldest daughter was starting school which left me and my youngest daughter at home - it was then that I decided to get back into creating wedding bouquets but this time to do it as a full time business - hence the beginning of Silk Flower Creations. I NEVER stopped dreaming of one day owning a florist shop or designing beautiful and elaborate wedding bouquets as my job. It was this huge sense of love that made me realise that this is what I wanted to do however, for me, just making bouquets wasn't enough I also wanted to help brides and grooms with this part of their wedding plan and make it as easy for them as possible.
When researching to start SFC, I stumbled upon some information from another country where wedding flowers could be hired - WOW what a find because after more research I couldn't find ANYONE else out there doing this in Australia so decided that this was worth exploring further, after all, almost everything else can be hired for a wedding so why not the flowers?
It was then that I decided that by offering the flower hire service this would certainly help couples to save money on their wedding WITHOUT sacrificing the quality of the product or the service offered. I also wanted to make the entire experience as easy as possible for the bride and groom. So again after careful consideration I put together a detailed information pack which gets sent out with the flowers along with "how to" instructions, a checklist to use when unpacking and re-packing the flowers, return address labels and of course my contact details to have on hand - just in case.
I then went even further to help the bride and groom pay for their flowers by offering GIFT CERTIFICATES which family and friends can purchase as gifts for the couple. Often the parents of the bride and groom or even the bridesmaids and groomsmen like to do this as a special surprise for the couple. It also allows the payments to be spread out (a bit like a lay-by system).
